The most shocking aspect of the incident is it happened in the broad daylight. In a hasty bid to flee with cash, the miscreants stabbed one of the employees and injured two others. However, alert residents caught hold one of the miscreants while others managed to escape.

The injured has been identified as Mohan Kumar, a daily wager working at KSRTC depot. He was administered first aid at K R Hospital and later shifted to Apollo BGS Hospital for further treatment. In the incident, KSRTC Chief Accounts Officer, Shivaraj and another person, Sangaiah were also injured. Tousib Akram, one of the attackers who was caught by alert citizens and staffers is an autorikshaw driver by profession. The accomplices of Tousib managed to flee from the scene.

According to police, the staff of KSRTC rural depot were carrying about ` 37 lakh — which is the amount collected over last three days — in their bus, to be deposited at the bank situated in front of the depot. In no time, three persons including Tousib pounced on the staff and attacked them. Mohankumar, who was carrying cash, resisted the attempt and hence was stabbed repeatedly in the back by Tousib. Despite this, Mohankumar continued to hold on to the box. Gathering strength, the victims raised an alarm, and the other employees of KSRTC and the bank came to the rescue of the injured and caught hold of Tousib. Later, he was remanded to N R Police Station.

It is suspected that the miscreants had planned this attack after observing the staff carry out a daily routine to deposit the money. It is learnt that the security staff were not present at the time when cash was being carried from the depot to the bank. The gunmen had left for home after performing day’s duty from 10 pm to 6 am. This presented the miscreants with an opportunity to steal the money, by attacking the staff members in the broad daylight.

N R Police have registered a case.
