Two cops 'share' a designation

Last Updated 10 November 2010, 18:57 IST

Although S T Ramesh is the incumbent for all practical purposes, there seems to be more than one DGP (Training) on paper. All the circulars issued from Ramesh’s office show his designation as DGP (Training), and at the same time those from the office of DGP, CID (Training), Special Units and Economic Offences, D V Guruprasad too has the word ‘training’ as part of his designation. The reason, as officials explain, seems to be the delay in issuing an order amending the designation of the latter, thus sending ‘wrong signal’ to 1,010 police stations in the State.

“My designation continues as such not withstanding the creation of the new post. It will continue so until the government passes an order amending the designation” Guruprasad told Deccan Herald. He added that with S T Ramesh taking charge of the new post, he was relieved of the responsibility and that he had nothing to do with the status quo on designation.

Technical error

Similarly, S T Ramesh pointed out that it was only a technical error and there was no confusion on his job profile. “I took charge on July 28, 2010 and ever since I have been incharge of training.” Sources said the GO by which the new office came into existence stipulates the term of the post as one year after and may be abolished after the stipulated period. At times, it does not make sense for the government to pass an order amending the designation and pass another next year to undo the amendment. Senior officers felt that the DG, CID could have written to the government to clear the air.
