Speaking to Deccan Herald on Thursday, Karun said his father had no such intention of running for the presidency and the whole episode began with the online magazine GPWeek writing a piece on Vicky as one of the candidates for the position currently held by Max Mosley.

“The editor of the magazine met us at Silverstone and he said he was interested in writing a piece about my father and his potential to head the FIA though my father and me laughed it off.

“The article revolved around the writer’s opinion of my father and his potential, which the media picked up and played it up,” said Karun. Vicky on Wednesday was reported to have said that his election to the post depended on the support he receives from Bernie Ecclestone and Mosley but Karun called it a clear case of misinterpretation.

“He is certainly not running for the presidency. In fact he and I spoke to Bernie and Max and told them how it all got out of hand. They laughed it off as well,” said the GP2 driver.
