Teacher pushes 3 kids into well; girl drowned

Ramanna shoved Basavaraja (11), Indrakumar (11) and Gagana (5) into the well. While the two boys swam to safety, Gagana drowned.

The three children are students of the Siddharoodha Primary School which is situated which is situated on the other side of the Raichur-Budgumpa State highwaythat cuts across the village. The teachers of the school normally escort the children across the busy highway.

On Saturday, it was Ramananna who escorted the children. He shepherded the students across the across the highway, and then pushed the three children in a well nearby even as other students looked on in horror.

The reason for the teacher’s murderous action is not known.

Informed by the students, residents of the village rushed to the spot. some of them tried to fish out the body of Gagana, while others thrashed the teacher, before handing him over to the police.

After four hours of effort, Fire Force personnel, assisted by the village residents fished out Gagana’s body out of the well. The village resounded with the heartrending wailing of Gagana’s parents and family members, even as the two boys who escaped certain death, looked on stupefied.

Legislator Hampayya Nayaka, former MLAs N S Bhosaraju and Gangadhara Nayaka, Zilla Parishat member Sidramappa Neeramanvi, Superintendent of Police T R Suresh, Tahsildar Somalinga Gennur, Circle Police Inspector Sharanappa Olekar and Sub-Inspector M J Dayanand visited the spot.
