Project Sankalp to train 500 nurses

It will also reorient them with skills to provide basic health services in STI, HIV and Reproductive and Child Health. The nurses will also be trained in family planning methods and legal issues dealing with HIV-infected persons.

Around two percent of the people coming to ESI hospitals are HIV-positive, the majority of whom are women seeking antenatal care and other surgeries.

Dr Kavi Shetty, State Medical Director, ESIC, said it is heartening to know that there was a fall in the percentage of new HIV infections. He said education was the best preventive method to control HIV.
