The Deputy Divisional Commissioner N Srinivasmurthy, who participated in the function, said the centre will help raise the awareness of farmers in the villages to an international level.

“It is an excellent medium to provide the farmers information regarding prices of manure and seeds, market and crop conditions and even geological conditions. Being armed with information about various matters will also help in raising the self-confidence of the farmers,” he added.

The State Government has been starting such internet contact centres in several prominent places in the rural areas since last year. There is already one such centre in Kamasamudra village in the taluk. “In the near future, one nodal centre will be established for every eight villages. They will function in the same way as Nemmadi Kendras,” he informed.

The kiosk is an authorised browsing centre of the Government. Charges for browsing are Rs five per hour. Customers may have matter scanned or printed at a charge of Rs 2 per document. Identity cards will be presented at the kiosk for security purposes.

Deputy General Manager of the Indian Telecommunication Department Kolar district Ganesh Chandra and Divisional Officer M G Nirmala were present during the occasion.
