Service, not profit

Students and businesspersons will greatly benefit from the facilities. “BSNL, which is a Central Government undertaking, aims to ensure that such facilities reach the people, rather than try to earn profits with a commercial mindset,” he explained.

“The profits or losses made by the company are directly connected to the Central Government. This is unlike a private company, where everything reaches one single person,” he said.

Private telecom companies have no provisions for their customers to put across complaints. BSNL, however, gives such facility to its customers and also responds to their complaints.

Two centres

Kolar District Telecom Assitant General Manager V Ramachandra said two such centres are opened in Mulbagal taluk. “Nangali is the first place to get an internet centre,” he said.

“Broadband facilities will be available from 8 am to 4 pm. The rate is just Rs five per hour for browsing. Scanning and printing can be done at Rs two per page,” he explained and advised the residents of the taluk to make the best use of the new facility.

BSNL advisory board member G Ramalinga Reddy agreed and said people in rural areas too should utilise the new technological developments coming up.

BSNL taluk officer Narasimhan, Naren Nandakumar, Nangali Gram Panchayat president V G Vishwanath Reddy, Mulbagal Taluk Panchayat former vice-president Amarnath and others were present.
