Having migrated from the DOTSOFT system to the Call Detail Record (CDR) based convergent billing system, users have been given a slew of options such as itemised billing, booking faults and paying bills from anywhere across the country.

Explaining the advantages of the CDR system, BSNL Sub-divisional Engineer (Computers) Samiulla said that earlier, itemised billing was available only on request. But, with the introduction of the new CDR system, users will receive an itemised bill with a list of all call records, complete duration and cost incurred on each call.

Bills

Also, people owning landline telephone had to pay their bills in their hometown. But, now they can pay the bills at any BSNL telephone payment centres across the country or make use of the website www.bsnl.co.in to make online payment, he added.

A major problem that customers often were confronted with was that of tendering exact change while paying their bill. Junior Telecom Officer Shankaraiah said that has been overcome with the ‘Balance Brought Forward Accounting Method’ that was incorporated in the CDR system.

Special facility

Now, customers have been provided a special facility where in they can pay either less or more. The balance amount — negative or positive — will be reflected in the next bill, he added.

Corporate clients are also provided with an attractive option wherein they can demand one bill for all telephone connections spread across the country.

Earlier, each office in a different city would get separate bills.  Also, the earlier problem of delay in re-connection of telephone lines despite paying the bills, will be a thing of the past as connection will be automatically reset as soon as the bills are paid.

Net-savvy customers can now register on the BSNL website to check and pay their bills online.
