The 13th Century inscription written using the Kannada script indicates that Veera Ballalla reigned during that time.
The stone consists of three layers of carvings and describes Masanaiah of Chettyhalli killing his wife by stabbing her during 1209 A D. However, there is no clarity on Masanaiah’s condition after he killed his wife.
The carving may indicate a case of self-sacrifice.
The stone was excavated under the supervision of Dr A R Rangaswamy, HoD, History, Government First Grade College, Srirangapatna.
