A large number of people stood in long queues at village Bamla to welcome the boxer, who arrived in an open jeep.

The Beijing Olympic bronze medallist was given a floral welcome with drum beats. After taking blessings from rural folks, Vijender was welcomed at Naurangabad, Ninan, Bhagwati dharmshala and Rohtak gate area with people garlanding him with currency notes.

The world number one ranking boxer said people of Bhiwani had given him whole hearted love and affection which he can never forget in life.

“I have come home after a long stay outside and will share my experience with family,” said Vijender.

When asked what is the first thing he would like to do on reaching home, he said: “My mother is waiting for me and I’ll prefer to eat what she has prepared for me.

“I’ll be meeting my parents, brothers, sisters after a long time and they are waiting for me.” He also said that the state government had instilled a new enthusiasm among sportspersons by doubling the prize money.

Demanding more facilities to sportsmen at Bhiwani stadium, he also sought improvement and development at SAI hostel here.
