Jeevaraj had resigned as chief whip on November 1 stating that he had held the post for four years and wanted to provide an opportunity for others to occupy the position.

However, it was then believed that Jeevaraj had resigned as a pressure tactic to seek a ministerial berth. He had submitted his resignation to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, but it was not accepted.

On Wednesday, Jeevaraj said the party leadership had prevailed upon him to continue as it was not advisable to keep the post vacant  when the issue of the MLAs’ disqualification is in the Supreme Court.
