Located in Basavanagudi, near Gandhi Bazaar, Cool Corner is so popular with the students of nearby colleges that during college hours, the outlet remains overcrowded with girls and boys.

Its popularity is largely due to its youth-friendly menu. “Students don’t have much time to sit and savour the food. They are always in hurry. So, we have items which can be served without much delay,” says G Sudhakar Shetty, the owner of the hotel. The outlet was actually started around 20 years ago with the name, Cafe Shree. It was only six years ago that the name was changed to Cool Corner. “We were serving only South Indian food then. When we took up renovation work, we thought of changing the name and the menu. Our decision to go ‘youth-friendly’ has been yielding fairly good results,” he says.

The eatery also draws student crowd from Bangalore Medical College, KIMS and BMS Institutions who tuck in sandwiches, have juices, dosa items, chaats and ice creams. “We come here with a bunch of friends at least thrice a week. Our favourite is dosa items like rava, set, masala, capsicum and plain dosas with juices,” says Shantanu of Jain College.

“I like sandwiches, especially the grilled ones. I also like the akki roti and the ‘traffic jam ice-cream’,” says Vandana from Vasavi College. The eatery opens at 7.30 am. The chaats are available only after 11.30 am till 10.30 pm. “No other eatery near our college is as good as this for students. The price is not high and the food is hygienic. Though I bring tiffin from home, I come here to have the juices. And I am addicted to Cool Corner, thanks to its chaats,” says Arun from National College.
