Man-nature bond on canvas

The seasoned artist drew the city’s attention with his use of rich colours and thought provoking themes at his unique collection of more than 15 oil paintings, displayed at Orchid Art Gallery.

Speaking to City Herald, the artist revealed that he has been painting for more than 25 years and he is inspired by notable surrealistic painter Dali.

“The main theme of my paintings is trees and roots which show humans being one with nature,” he said and added that the paintings that show the fingers becoming roots, humans in their bare form signifies the fact.

The painter in his works shows trees with no leaves and fallen trees. “With this kind of portrayal, I try to represent the naked truth,” says the artist.

The painter further added that he makes extensive use of frames in his painting which signifies windows through which one can enjoy the aesthetic sense. “The frames inside a frame also remain in a person’s mind for a longer time, hence I have broken my paintings in frames,” he said and added that overall his painting dominates the theme but with the diversified view one can take a close-look at the intricate details.

In most of his paintings, the artist has treated the canvas with palate knife and brush. The painter says he is fascinated in using earth colours such as brown or deep blue, violet and green. The painter expertises in oil paintings and his artworks can enroot a person for a long time.

“I don’t do my paintings for commercial value. The nature and its protection is my main motive,” says Madhu Madapally.

From Kozhikode

Madhu Madapally hails from Kozhikode in Kerala. Madapally was trained in art at Kerala School of Arts at Talassery.

He has had more than 10 solo exhibitions in different parts of the country and has even held an exhibition in Al Quose, Dubai. The artist apart from painting has worked as an actor, director and stage designer in theatre.

He is also a member of Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangam, Kerala Chitrakala Parishath, Kaladarpanam Art and Cultural Organisation and Executive member of Kerala School of Arts.

Awards

The artist has received State Award CWRDM in the year 1998, OYP-Indian Junior Chamber, Kerala in 1999, State Award by general education department Kerala in 2001, Muthukalam State Award in 2006 and Kalaratnam Award by Kaladarpanam, Kochi in 2007.

The artist also takes keen interest in spreading the knowledge of art, hence he works as an art teacher at Talassery Palayad Higher Secondary School. The painter resides in Kerala and is married to Jolly. He has two daughters Ally and Aleena.

The painting expo is open for all art lovers at Orchid Art Gallery, in Balmatta till December 12.
