Speaking after inaugurating the programme MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said that society and government has drastically failed to cater to the interest of the disabled class. Disabled people are not paid enough concern, besides attempts to bring them to the mainstream have proved to be failure. Measures should be taken to support them with all necessary facilities, he added.

He said there are as many as 17,050 disabled persons in the district. Of which 7,029 disabled people are considered for 50% disability. There is much confusion in the strategies followed by the department in considering the intensity of the disability. Individuals affected by paralysis should be considered for 75% disabled category, he added.

An expo on handicrafts and art painted by the special kids was organized on the occasion. All special schools working in and around the district took part in the exhibition. The expo displayed paper bags, flower bouquets, teddy bears, flower vases, door mats.
