But, quite contrary to general perception, teenagers are not just reading books, but in effect are turning authors. Want proof: the Silicon Valley of India has produced yet another teen author.

Subramanya Jois S P, a Class 10 student of Nagarjuna Vidyaniketan, Yelahanka, has published ‘Mutant-X’, a novelette on cloning. The book was released on November 28.

Son of S Prabhakar Jois, a resident of Judicial Layout, Subramanya had penned the novelette as early as in 2008 when he was in Class Eight. According to Subramanya, his book has “values which can enhance scientific thinking in every child aspiring to do something good through science”.

About cloning, he says: “Cloning is a sophisticated process, but with it comes mutation (changes in the DNA sequence of a cell’s genome or the DNA or RNA sequence of a virus). So if cloning is used for good purposes, it will prove to be a boon for mankind, but if it is used to recreate dead men, it will be the worst-ever nightmare.”

The novelette has seven chapters –– the budding star, the nobel laureate in biotechnology, the super thinker, the beginning of the super human, making of the super human, Arya: the super human, and the guardians of earth.

The novelette deals with life of Arya, the son of a poor farmer, Thanappa. Arya wins a lottery of Rs six crore and runs off to Delhi with his father to prevent his uncle Bheem Sane from usurping the money. Later, he studies at IIT, Kanpur and becomes a nuclear physicist. He, however, discards the field and chooses biotechnology and dreams of mutating animals, humans and creating a whole new variety of species.
