4 lecturers arrested for sexual harassment of women colleagues

The four were arrested after the women lecturers repeatedly lodged complaints against them with the local police, Joint Commissioner of Police and even the state's Home Minister.

Lecturers Rakesh Damir, Sanjay Shah, Milan Shah and in-charge principal Jayantilal Shah were arrested by the Kalupur police and produced before metropolitan magistrate V J Kalotra who sent them to judicial custody.

All the four have been booked for sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, trying to insult modesty of woman, obscene acts and other section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the separate complaints filed by three women lecturers, Damir, Sanjay and Milan used to pass obscene comments at them when they would be alone in staff room or library. They would also ask them to come to various hotels.

The women lecturers further alleged that though they made complaints to the Principal Patel, no action was take against the three lecturers. They had even filed a police complaint in September this year but police too did not take any action.

The women lecturers have also claimed in the FIR that the accused used to insult them in front of other colleagues and students. The four had also threatened them of dire consequences after they filed police complaint in September.

After seeing the attitude of local police, they complained to the Joint Commissioner of Police and then the Home Minister, following which the four persons were arrested today.
