CDP unscientific, says MCC opposition

Last Updated 07 December 2010, 18:04 IST

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that changes should be made to CDP to enable the weaker section of the society to construct houses in the City. Earlier, building licences were issued to the applicants within a week, but with the introduction of CDP, people have to wait for months to get approval from the MUDA. The single site approval introduced by the MUDA is unscientific.

Accordingly, to build a house in three cents land in Kadri ward, the owner has to pay a penalty of Rs 45,000 to MUDA, which is a burden on the poor. If an individual wants to construct first floor to the already existing house, then he has to take single site approval from the MUDA. Even for dividing ancestral property among family members, single site approval is must.

Stating that rulings of Mayor is not being implemented in Mangalore City Corporation, Opposition leader said that no solutions have been found for serious problems in the MCC including the rise in Malaria cases, asphaltation of roads, faulty water bills.

SFC fund

He said the funds earmarked under SFC grant for the development of interior roads have been diverted for carrying out concreting work in the city. About 369 lakh released by the Centre under 13th Finance Commission has been earmarked for development works without bringing to the notice of the Council. Instead of developing roads, the funds have been earmarked for the soil caping at Pachanady dumping yard, storm water drains at Kottara Chowki, asphaltation of Central market region, development of drains at Kodialguthu, Generator for MCC, generator for Town Hall, development of park at Maruthi Nagara, Krishnapura seventh block and so on.

Complaint to Lokayukta

Ashok said that ruling party members okayed the proposals without discussing it in the Council.

In spite of submitting objections to some of the proposals, the ruling Corporators have okayed the proposals in the Council. The Opposition will file a complaint to the Lokayukta in this regard.

Violation

As per the rules, e-tender should be called for any development works worth beyond Rs 10 lakh. However, the rules have been flouted for sanctioning works worth Rs 32 lakh for filling the land for service bus stand at Pumpwell. E-tender was not invited, he added.
