Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, he said that the inquiry into land scams, which was being conducted by the Lokaykta, was not coming under the purview of Justice B Padmanabha Commission, appointed by the government, till November 18. However, a new notification was issued on December 6 bringing changes to the November 22 notification pertaining to the appointment of the Commission, he added.

“JD(S) Spokesperson Y S V Datta had filed a complaint on November 18 alleging involvement of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, his children and relatives in the land scams. The Congress too had filed complaints against 11 including Yeddyurappa, BJP State President K S Eshwarappa, Ministers R Ashok, Shobha Karandlaje, Leaders Murugesh Nirani, Hemachandra Sagar, M P Kumaraswamy and Bharathi Shetty alleging corruption and nepotism,” he said.

The government is trying to impede the inquiry to escape from punishment. The government has given only one year period to complete the inquiry on scams, which are said to have taken place in the State starting from Deve Gowda’s term as the Chief Minister, he said adding that never in the history a judicial inquiry was completed in one year.

“BJP had tried to halt the Lokayukta inquiry on mining scams too. The Lokayukta should not stop the inquiry at any cost. The Congress will extend its moral support to the Lokayukta, since we have trust in the Lokayukta inquiry,” Shankar said.

Protest in B’lore

The Congress will hold protest against the BJP government, for issuing a new notification with regard to the inquiry into the land scams, in Bangalore next week, Shankar said.
Talking about the declaration of election, he said that it is an injustice on people that the election notification was issued without solving the confusion regarding reservation.
People of the State will teach an apt lesson to the BJP, he added.

“We are preparing to fight the elections to the Taluk Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats. We have decided to field candidates in all seats. Like-minded parties including Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and CPI have approached the State President. Decision will be taken based on the directions of the party high command,” Shankar said adding that the Congress will secure majority in the elections.
