Ticket distribution time: Dissidence looms large in parties

Last Updated 08 December 2010, 18:09 IST

The major parties are facing the heat over divisions among the cadre of newcomers and original partymen. There has been fierce competition between the leaders of these groups to garner tickets for their supporters.

Groupism

All these years BJP workers in the taluk were working under the leadership of party leader B P Venkatamuniyappa. After M Narayanaswamy, the Chairman of the State Warehouse Corporation joined the BJP, a number of workers are associating with him, thereby leading to groupism. Those leaders who do not get the tickets may walk out of the party.

Strong support

In the Congress, party leaders are aligning themselves with TMC standing committee Chairperson K M Narayanaswamy or ZP  member Ramachandra, who is seen as a strong supporter of Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa.

Reports that former minister K Srinivas Gowda is joining JD(S) has led to two factions in the party. Gowda’s faction which has a hold over many villages is trying to alienate original partymen, it is said.

With just a few days left for candidates to file nominations and with factionalism dogging all parties, one could expect a lot of surprises on who quits or who stays back in the major parties. It will indeed be a tough task for leaders to rein in those leaders who are denied tickets as they may either indulge in dissident activities while remaining in the party or quit the party along with their supporters and harm the prospects of the official candidates.
