Officials of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) took help of police, after farmers stopped an attempt to build a fence around the land by the Food Corporation of India. About 50 acres of land had been handed over to the company and villagers were irate that their land was being taken over without compensation being paid to them.
Most of the villagers who have not received money are those who had provided additional documents to the revenue department to establish ownership over the land, especially gomala lands. Shamanna, a resident of Bagalur, who has given five acres of land, said that they would not give possession of the land until they were paid the money.
