Work on BMTC feeder lines accelerated

Last Updated 13 December 2010, 19:16 IST

Use of private vehicles to reach the metro station is ruled out, as there is no provision for parking in any of the metro stations, barring the terminals. However, officers from both the corporations are working on the BMTC feeder routes which will act as one of the main lifelines for metro train users.

Even though providing feeder services for Metro was planned two years ago, the actual work is being hastened only now.

BMTC Managing Director Syed Zameer Pasha told Deccan Herald: “We are working on the feeder routes and our aim is to finalise a foolproof service connecting vital areas to metro stations and terminals.” According to sources in BMTC, two preliminary meetings have already taken place in October. “We will soon announce the routes to the public,” they said.

The BMTC is expected to ply additional buses wherever there is a need. Also, BMTC is planning to increase the number of buses during the night to cater to Metro passengers.

In order to connect people to its terminals and stations, BMRCL is banking on a three-tier feeder system: Walking, autorickshaws and BMTC buses.

The feeder routes will be connecting suburban regions and the main arterial roads.
