Selected for state-level hockey tournament

Lack of expert coach did not deter the grit and determination of the students of Chamarajanagar Government PU college to bag the district-level championship and get an opportunity to play for the state-level hockey tournament.

The students bagged the first place at the district-level hockey tournament conducted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports and has been selected to play the state-level hockey competitions.

The department felicitated the students Kashif Khan, B Imran, Mohammad Tanveerulla, Umar Baig, Rakib Ahmed and Mahendra by presenting them with certificate and medals.

Senior lecturer of DIET Lingaraj Urs, who spoke on the occasion opined that there is no proper encouragement to sports in the district. He also pointed out that there is no training centres for hockey, which is the national game of our country. He also lamented that cricket is given more importance and other games are being neglected.

He lauded the students who have been selected to the state level by showing their own talent without any extra coaching by the experts.

Vice Principal Ningegowda assured to provide coaching for the students who have been selected for the tournament and would ensure to give equal importance to sports along with academic. Head master Rajappa, Balasubramanyam, C R Padma, Christopher, Physical Education teacher Joseph, Pushpalatha and others were present.
