When Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti visited the house of Priyanka on Sunday, the neighbours vent their ire against the police.

“When I asked the police to question on the whereabouts of the child with Chandrakala, a police asked me whether I had any enmity with her. If they had searched the child in Kamalksha’s house on Thursday, then the child would have been alive now. The police refused to listen to our pleas,” she added.

“Police were on duty. Still they visited the house of Kamalaksha and received prasadm offered by him,” said another neighbour.

“Kamalaksha used to pelt stones at our house. If we open the windows, then he used to dump wastes with chilly and set fire,” said a neighbour who resides next to Kamalaksha’s house.

“It is claimed that Chandrakala is mentally ill. However, if she is mentally ill, then how can she return home after going outside the house for personal work. Her dress does not convey that she is mentally ill. She is trying to hide her mistake by acting as mentally ill,” said Shashikala, yet another neighbour. Chandrakala too had a kid and is missing for the last three months. When enquired, she said that the child is in Udupi. “There is a need to search the entire vicinty,” appealed Shobha Fernandes.

The AC also spoke to Anjali Jha, Priyanka’ mother,  and collected information. He also visited the spot where the body of the child was found.

Later, speaking to presspersons, he said that he has been directed to file a report on the incident. The report would contain details such as whether black magic or superstitious belief was really practiced, which claimed a child’s life. The investigation is being carried out on the direction of State Human Rights Commission to the Deputy Commissioner. The report will be submitted within seven days to the DC, he said.
