Krishna, in a letter to Yeddyurppa, copies of which were released to the press, has furnished details of the extent of land denotified during his rule and explained the purpose for which the land was denotified.  S M Krishna was the chief minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004.

“These wild and baseless allegations are nothing but assasination of my character,” Krishna stated in his letter.

All the allegations were raised in the Legislative sessions during his tenure and were replied effectively. During his tenure as chief minister, the Bangalore Development Authority had acquired 5,531 acres of land in a transparent manner. The land losers were granted 60x40 ft site for the land acquired, Krishna stated.

Explaining the process of land acquisition and legal provision to denotify the land once notified, Krishna has given a table of extent of land notified for BDA projects and later denotified after going through the set procedure.

Krishna said during his tenure 2,203 acres and 30 guntas of land required for religious, educational and industrial purposes were denotified. A large extent of land was notified because of parallel acquisition by various Government agencies. His Government decided to acquire only the extent required for right of way (RoW) for outer ring road and denotified properties on either side of the road, he said.

Krishna said he was sure that Yeddyurappa had been making allegations suppressing the truth and suggesting falsehood. “Your sole purpose in doing this is obviously to tarnish my image,” Krishna told Yeddyurappa in the letter.
