Last Updated 23 December 2010, 18:42 IST

The agency informed the court that it had some evidence against the accused regarding his involvement in the Samjhauta blast case, for which his questioning was essential. Subsequently, the court remanded Asimanand to a day in police custody.

The NIA questioned Asimanand on Thursday which will go on till Friday. At least three agencies––the Haryana Railway police, NIA and the CBI––have been trying to pick up leads in the case, but to no avail.

Asimanand was arrested by the CBI on November 19 from Hardwar in Uttarakhand for his alleged role in the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad. Mediaperson were kept out of bounds of the courtroom. The court here is the designated court for the Samjhauta blasts case.

The CBI, which is probing the Hyderabad blasts, has already claimed that Asimanand had given refuge to one Sunil Joshi. The NIA also suspected Joshi’s involvement in the Samjhauta blasts.

Joshi was murdered, but Asimanand’s interrogation may help ascertain if Joshi was involved in the train blast case, since Joshi and Asimanad were said to be associates.
