It is a good sign that the state unit chiefs have resigned owning moral responsibility for the electoral upset suffered by the BJP in recent elections. The opportunity must be utilised by BJP to infuse new blood and repackage its ideas.
It must be mortifying that, for the party which made spectacular gains from the paltry 2 seats in 1981 to 181 when they came to power, swiftly it suffered electoral reverses. It is time the party does some 'Kamaraj plan' and probably if the top leadership too have the courage to accept the blame and step aside, it may do a world good to the party.
Two issues whether right or wrong that has entrenched in the psyche of those who were sympathetic to BJP and lately felt disenchanted, are the hold of RSS and the Hindutva agenda. The party has to do something about it.
Already the Congress is exhibiting arrogant tendencies and the recent incident of the union minister trying to influence the judiciary is indicative of the mindset which has always existed below the surface. This should help BJP to reinvent itsef for the Congress too may fall from grace.
