Crucial role for US

No doubt North Korea’s firing missile spree is a challenge to South Korea, Japan and US.

But sanctions may not deter any country which is determined to go ahead with its nuclear or missile testing  programme. In the cold war era the East Germany too had remained as a flash point since supported by the  former Warsaw pact countries and West Germany was backed by NATO. But after both the Germany's were united peace returned to Europe.

The US which calls  N. Korea , Iran  as ‘rogue states’ or ‘axis of evil ‘, instead of  coercing should veer round both the countries  courtesy the UNSC to abandon their belligerent nuclear programme and missile testing.

N. Korea fears South Korea and Iran fears  nuclear Israel ,both backed by the US. It is the haunting fear  that led to  Tehran’s  nuclear ambition and N. Korea’s missile tests. The US in tandem with China and Russia should strive to unite both the Koreas ,  North and South to ease tensions in the region permanantly.
