2 killed, 13 hurt in mini-bus mishap

The deceased have been identified as Ravi (21) from Channapatna and Gururaj (33) from Derebail. Rash and negligent driving is said to be the reason for the mishap. The mini-bus was bound to Mangalore from Bangalore. Of the injured, six have been admitted to Fr Muller Hospital and six to Mangala Nursing Home. A case has been registered in Puttur police station.

Man held

Ullal police have arrested one person following the information given by Underworld don Madur Isubu with regard to the case of missing Sekina Bhanu of Mukkachery. The arrested has been identified as Ummar Farook. It was said that Bhanu went missing from October 27, 2001. As she was involved in anti-religious activities, following the direction of Madur Isubu, Ummar Farook and three others took her to Bantwal in a car and allegedly killed her in Bantwal. The body was said to be thrown in Shiradi Ghat.

Boat with ‘weapons’

Cops were on high alert following a rumour that a cargo boat carrying weapons has crossed the Indian boarder. However, after searching the boat, the police found the information they received was wrong.

Based on an information, the Mangalore Coastal Security Police and the Panambur police rushed to the Old Port, where they found the cargo boat ‘M S V Al-Jazeera’. The police searched the boat, which reached Mangalore from Kalpeni in Lakshadweep.

Sniffer dogs and metal detectors were pressed into service to search the boat, but the police could not trace any weapon in the boat. Police sources said that eight persons had reached in the cargo boat to purchase goods from Mangalore city. “None of them were arrested and no case has been registered,” police said.
