R Divya (24) from Kanakapur and Jyothirmayi (26) from West Bengal died on the spot. Sumeet Deb (28) of Jharkhand and Damodar Shetty (25) of Kundapur are in critical condition.

The four employees of the First Source Solutions Call Centre in Sarjapur, had planned an excursion to Wonder La near Bidadi, the Kamakshipalya police said.

Sumeet and Damodar stayed in JP Nagar, Divya in a paying guest accommodation in Malleswaram, and Jyothirmayi in Hebbal. They were travelling in Sumeet’s car. Shetty, who was driving the car, lost control over the wheel while negotiating a curve near a flyover on the Outer Ring Road.

The car rammed the median, carromed off it for some distance, hit an electric pole and toppled.

Divya, who sustained multiple injuries died on the spot; Jyothirmayi died while being shifted to a hospital. Sumeet and Shetty, who sustained severe injuries on head and back, are undergoing treatment in separate hospitals.

“Doctors said their condition is still critical. Overspeeding, rash and negligent driving are the cause for the accident,” said the police.

Divya’s body was handed over to her parents after a post-mortem, while Jyothirmayi’s parents are on their way to Bangalore.

The police had to deploy additional force to disperse the onlookers at the accident spot and ease the flow of traffic on the road.
