This statement by Anju Jaswal, a parent illustrated the troubles the students had to undergo while writing the crucial examination: “The noise has been a disturbance throughout the day. It is the first day of CET and parents are worried about their wards writing the examination. The authorities should have taken note of such details which have an effect on the children.” Anju’s daughter, a student from Kendriya Vidyalaya, who was at the St Anne’s college writing CET.

Anju added,“CET for one subject is of one hour and twenty minutes duration and the work could have been stopped at least while the examination was on. Biology examination was conducted in the morning session which did not have many children appearing for it. Mathematics was held in the afternoon session where maximum number of students appeared and the construction noise was a great disturbance.”

Sarita Itiga was another anxious parent who was alarmed by the amount of noise generated by the construction work. “The authorities should have made arrangements to ensure that the examination is conducted without any disturbance. On days of examination, parents are worried about their wards’ preparation, their health and stress levels. Parents have to be on their toes to ensure that the students do not get worked up during the examination. We could not seek out the authorities about noise levels, as we had to attend to our wards,” Sarita complained.

“We hope that at least on Thursday, the authorities will take steps to stop the construction work when the children are writing the CET,” added Jaswal.

Incidentally, Minister for Higher Education, Aravind Limbavali and Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Executive Officer, S G Hegde, who visited the College failed to  notice the problem. However, when contacted, Hegde, said that the college administration had been issued instructions to stop the construction work on Thursday.
