Dyslexia is a broad term that defines a learning disability impairing the person’s ability to read.

According to experts, teachers can play a crucial rule in identifying children suffering from dyslexia - the most common type of learning disability. It often manifests as a difficulty with phonological awareness, phonological decoding, orthographic coding, auditory short-term memory, and rapid naming. Teachers and educators were given training to identify the symptoms of the condition at a session organised by Pearson Clinical Assessment.
Some of the participating schools were Vagdevi Vilas Institutions, Arts Secondary School and Riddhi Academy.

The day-long workshop educated the participants about the characteristic features of dyslexia, and provided training in the administration and interpretation of two prominent psychological tests, i.e., The Raven’s Progressive Matrices and Vocabulary Scales and the Dyslexia Screening Test (DST).

The Raven’s Progressive Matrices and Vocabulary Scales is one of the most widely used tests in India and around the world for testing a child’s intellectual capabilities.
DST is used to identify children who are susceptible to dyslexia. It enables early identification of the symptoms, so that it is possible to provide the child a supportive academic environment and special education.
