An engineering student was found dead, hanging from a tree in an open field behind Mahalakshmi temple near Puttenhalli bus stand early on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as R Varun, 22, a resident of Wilson Garden, 6th Phase.
Varun was a fifth-semester student of Electronics and Communications at PES College on Hosur Road.

According to members of his family, Varun had left for college on his motorcycle at noon on Friday, but failed to return home that night. The next morning, the family discovered that he had returned to the apartment complex, as they found his motorcycle outside. Later, they found his body hanging from a tree in a nearby field. Family members described Varun as a diligent student. Police sources said the semester results were announced on Thursday and speculated that he may have fared poorly in the exams. The family claimed that he had come home late on Thursday night and appeared depressed. “He did not, however, explain why he was glum,” police said.

Varun’s father Ravi is employed at a private automobile showroom in the City.
