‘Rangapravesha’

Shruthi Prasad Kamisetty, disciple of Kanya Ramachandran Tayalia, will present her Bharatanatyam rangapravesha on January 8, 6 pm at Sathya Sai Samskruta Sadanam, Next to Forum Mall, Koramangala.

Padmashri Chitra Visweswaran from Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts and Padmini Ramachandran from Natyapriya will be the chief guests for the occasion.  

‘The Comedy Dhamaka’

Center Stage will present The Comedy Dhamaka, which will have Krishna, Sudesh, Kapil Sharma, Bharti Singh along with MC Surveen Chawal and Prince Dance Group.

The event will be held on January 9, from 4 pm to 7 pm and 8 pm to 11 pm at The Good Shepherd Auditorium, Residency Road.

A view of varied expressions

HCG Foundation and Swasti, the Contemporary Art Gallery is presenting Varsha 2011, an art show featuring paintings, drawings, graphic prints and sculptures by 12 artists from all over the State. The show will be on view till February 7.

The venue is Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery, HCG Towers 1, 8, Kalinga Rao Road, Sampangiramnagar (near Geo Hotel).

A laugh riot

Sahakarnagar Residents’ Welfare Association will present a marathon seven-hour Nage Habba on January 9, from 2 pm to 9 pm, at Bayalu Rangamandira, Sahakarnagar. Mimicry Dayanand, Richard Louis, Arathi, Gangavati Pranesh will treat the audience to rib-tickling humour. Naadi of Hasyaranjini troupe, Narasimha Joshi and Basavaraj Mahamani will also perform at the event, anchored by Sharanabasaveshwara Angadi.

‘Toto Awards 2011’

The Seventh Annual Toto Awards 2011 function is being held at the Alliance Francaise on January 8, 6.30 pm.

The names of the winners in all the award categories — creative writing in English, creative writing in Kannada, music and photography — as well as those shortlisted will be announced at the event, and will be put up on totofundsthearts.blogspot.com by January 11.

‘Ranganirantara’

Ranganirantara will present a new play called Mitta Bailu Yamunakka, based on the novel by D K Chowta, from January 11 to 13, 7 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road.

Spotlight on plays

Indian Ensemble will present Harlesden High Street, a play in English written by Abhishek Majumdar and directed by Neel Chaudhuri, on January 9, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara.

The cast includes Arundhati Nag, Momo Ghosh, Swetanshu Bora and Chorus from Indian Ensemble.

The play is set on the High Street in Harlesden, an area populated mostly by immigrant communities — Jamaicans, Poles and Pakistanis.

Sometimes notorious in the press for its high crime rate, Harlesden is also home to the quiet aspirations and mundane frustrations of the working class.

It is here that this play finds breath, in the voices and stories of three Pakistani immigrants —- Rehaan, Karim and Ammi. Through the course of a day on Harlesden High Street, you can find the the extraordinary histories and circumstances of these seemingly ordinary lives.

Treadmill, a play in Hindi, written by Sandeep Shikhar and directed by Abhishek Majumdar will be staged on January 8, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara.
The cast includes Sandeep Shikhar, Virginia Rodrigues, Pratyush Singh, Ashwini Chakre.

Light music treat

Sri Akhila Havyaka Maha Sabha is organising a light music programme called Sugama Sangama by music composer and singer Shrikant Kulkarni and his group on January 8, 5 pm at Havyaka Sabha Bhavana, 101, 11th Cross, 8th Main, Malleswaram.

The other participants are Anusha Bhat, Aswini Kulkarni, Anita Kulkarni, Maya Chikkerur, Meghana V Kulkarni, Meghana Nadagoud, Roshan Rajan, Ritwik Rajan, Sneha Gudi, Sahana Joshi, Priyanka Bhagwat, Basant Suraleshwar and Shachi Moharir. Sugama Sangama is a popular platform established by Shrikant Kulkarni with the aim of promoting light music.
