Hughes rides Sunspirit to victory in Jog Cup

Irfan Ghatala-schooled Sunspirit, at the hands of Richard Hughes, put in an impressive final burst to lift the seven-furlong Jog Cup, the plum event of Friday’s races here.

The race started with Portatone (R Vaibhav up) making the early running, followed by Nausad Alam-steered Sweet Caroline and Lads Gladiator, ridden by YS Srinath. At the straight, Abnoba (Suraj Narredu up) made a move from the rails while Sunspirit put in a good run from the outside, both going neck and neck before, Sunspirit, brilliantly ridden by Hughes, put in a blazing final gallop to take the honours.
