Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said though the number of accidents are on decline, the accident deaths have increased compared to last year. As many as 11 murders have taken place in 2008. It was 32 in 2009 and 19 in 2010. A total of 35 robberies took place in 2008 and 28 in 2009. The robberies have come down to 23 in 2010. In 2008, as many as 1,064 accidents have been reported. In 2009, as many as 1,038 accidents were reported. In 2010, about 841 accidents have been reported. Stating that the traffic movement in the City will be made hassle-free once two new traffic stations are set up, he said a proposal has already been sent to open two new stations— North Traffic Police Station and South Traffic Police Station. Towns including Mulky, Suratkal and Kavoor will come under the North Traffic station. Till the two more traffic stations come up, the police will install reflector guards, signages even in Mulky and Kavoor Surathkal station limits. In rioting cases, 89 persons have been arrested in 2010 compared to 105 in 2009. Under motor vehicle theft cases, 199 cases have been registered in 2010 compared to 212 in 2009.
