“More often than not, you play just one-odd game. It’s very difficult to get into that groove, and then come out of that groove and play ODIs,” Dhoni told newsmen on Saturday afternoon. “We will give it our best shot. We have got players who are a part of the ODI squad who are also T20 specialists. That will help. We will go out there and give our 100 percent.

“Though it is a very serious game -- we take T20 seriously -- it may be taken as a warm-up game for the ODIs coming up. The wicket at the Moses Mabhida stadium will be completely different, the conditions for ODIs will be completely different, so it is better to keep it as one-off T20 international and look to go out and enjoy. It will be good if people with different roles and responsibilities can accomplish what they want out of the game.”

The quick switch from white clothing to coloured clothing, and from red ball to white ball, would be difficult, Dhoni acknowledged. “Of course, from cricket stadium to football stadium too!” he laughed. “The nature of the red ball is very different compared to the white ball. The demand of the format is very different. After the T20 game tomorrow, we’ll get into the groove of five ODIs.”

Sachin Tendulkar and Makhaya Ntini, who will retire from international cricket after Sunday, will be honoured for their contributions. “Whenever you talk about Sachin, it is some kind of an achievement,” Dhoni observed. “He always gives something to celebrate about. The team is not new to it, Sachin himself s not new to it. The more records he creates, the better it is for us. He is looked upon as an ideal role model. It’s a big game for Makhaya too, because it is his last game. He was part of Chennai Super Kings, we have had some good times together. Hope he has a good life after cricket because life doesn’t stop though cricket may stop.”
