Nilekani, one of the six founders of Infosys, has recently taken up the post of Chairperson of Unique Identification Authority of India, an ambitious e-governance project of Government of India that plans to provide unique identity cards to every citizen of the country.

Nilekani’s farewell function, held at the sprawling Infosys campus in the Electronic City on the outskirts of Bangalore, lasted for about one-and-half hours. An Infosys employee, who was one of the nearly 2000 Infocions present at the function, told Deccan Herald that the entire senior management team of Infosys with their family members was present at the event.

In nostalgia

In his informal address, Nilekani, who was accompanied by his wife and two kids, recalled the early days when he along with five others started Infosys. He remembered how with great difficulty, he physically carried a bulky computer from Bombay to Bangalore by train for the Infosys office.

In his recapitulation of the early days Narayana Murthy, Chairman, also recalled how all of them worked as a team and transformed their dream into today’s Infosys as a close knit family. The top management wished Nilekani success in his new job.
