Last Updated 12 January 2011, 16:57 IST

Speaking with mediapersons here on Wednesday, committee co-convener P R Bharath said the forest department should stop torturing the tribals residing in forest areas. All the false cases filed against tribals should be withdrawn. There is a need to constitute Grama samithi comprising tribals. The title deeds should be distributed to the tribals, he added.
He said measures should be taken to solve housing problems.

All the tribals must be given 35 kg rice under Anthyodaya ration card. The employment opportunity should be given to the tribals. Reservation system should be implemented effectively. The officials should see that tribals make use of MGNREGS effectively, he added.
Bharath said the government should appoint teachers to Ashrama School. ITDP should be implemented effectively in the district.

Tribals who are working in estates must be given housing facilities. The district administration should take measures to provide clean drinking water, electricity, toilet and educational facilities for the tribals residing in forest.

“A memorandum will be submitted to the district administration. If the authorities fail to initiate measures to fulfil our demands within 15 days, we will intensify our protest,” warned district convener A Mahadev.
