Additional district sessions Judge Nasir Ahmed also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused, Sunil after holding him guilty under section 363 (kidnapping) and section 366 (abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of IPC here yesterday, they said.
Thirteen-year-old Afsana had eloped with Sunil from village Sari Rasulpur on June 3, 1997, after which a case was filed by the girl's brother against Sunil, prosecution said.
Rejecting the plea of the defence that the girl had willingly married the boy, the court ruled that the girl was minor at the time of the incident and her wishes could not be considered, they said. The couple have been living together since 1997 and have three children.
