JOIN USA proposal of Rs 12 lakh has been prepared for protecting Devarakadu. Of which, Rs 7 lakh has been released by the government. Of the 12 Devarakadu, the land belonging to Arekadu in Madikeri taluk and Suggi Devarabana in Somwarpet taluk have been identified.
He said the district has around 1,400 Devarakadu extending from one acre land to 400 acre land. In some places, the land belonging to Devarakadu have been encroached. “Only after the survey, we will come to know the extent of encroachment. In some places, realising that they have encroached Devarakadu, the public have voluntarily given the land,” he added.
He said the funds will be released for the protection of Devarakadu every year. In this background, it was decided to survey Devarakadu. After the survey, fence will be laid to protect it.
