Shobha misses R-Day

This was the first Republic Day celebration for Shobha after her re-induction into the Cabinet.

The celebrations were organised at M Visvesvaraya Stadium. Later, Deputy Commissioner N Manjula received the guard of honour and MLA K P Bachegowda presided over the celebrations.

Apart from the march past by the police department personnel and students from various schools and colleges, cultural programmes had also been organised.

Though minister Shobha failed to attend the function, Deputy Commissioner Dr N Manjula faithfully read out the four-page speech about various development activities being carried out in the district.

Nandi Hills

To develop Nandi Hills into an international tourist destination, a Rs 18-crore project has been prepared. Priority has been given for the construction of a building for business activities of Stree Shakti and self help groups, construction of office buildings for 23 gram panchayats, construction of toilets for families under comprehensive cleanliness drive, hostel for girl students and hostel for students belonging to minority community in Kaiwara, the Deputy Commissioner stated.

Many people who had rendered yeoman service in various fields were felicitated on the occasion.

Promise of development in phases

The government is committed to the overall development of the district. The development work will be taken up in phases. Funds have been sanctioned for the construction of Mini Vidhana Soudha which is already under construction.

An amount of Rs 25 crore has been allocated for construction of District Administrative Complex and Residential quarters.

An amount of Rs 6.85 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of mini Vidhana Soudhas at Chikkaballapur and Gudibande, Rs 20 crore for the drinking water supply in Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks, Rs 35 crore for Jakkalamadagu drinking water project which is expected to be completed by April-end this year and Rs 22 crore for the construction of drainage system in Chikkaballapur which is likely to be completed by December this year.

For the establishment of premier Technical Education and Research Centre, 200 acres of land have been identified in Muddenahalli in the district.
