Maestros in concert
Bhakti Yoga is conducting concerts in the City on January 29 and 30 to honour the 60th year of the spiritual journey of Gurumata Amma. On January 29, there will be a Carnatic music performance by Sudha Raghunathan while the legendary Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj will present a bhakthi sangeet recital on January 30, along with his group. ‘Chaitrodaya Phaalguna Darshana’

Classical vocal delight
Canara Union is holding a Hindustani classical vocal music concert by Balachandra Prabhu at the Canara Union Auditorium on January 29, 6 pm. He will be accompanied on the harmonium by Satish Kolli and on the tabla by Mihir Kallianpur. Balachandra is a young music sensation and a student of Jayateerth Mevundi and Pandit Shripati Padigar of Hubli. Satish Kolli started learning vocal music under M G Patwardhan of Dharwad and switched to harmonium after some years. He is now under the tutelage of harmonium maestro Vyasmurti Katti, and is also taking lehara training from Ravindra Yavagal. Mihir Kallianpur was initiated into tabla at the age of seven and for the past several years, has been undergoing advanced training from Ustad Shabbir Nisar of Hyderabad.
‘Swapna-Sakaram’
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), in collaboration with Directorate of Kannada and Culture,Government of Karnataka, is staging a dance-drama based on the 11th century India-China trade links with the Chola period called Swapna-Sakaram (A Dream Fulfilled) on January 29, 7 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. The concept and script is by Hema Devare while the direction and choreography is by Usha Venkateswaran. Entry is free. Invitation cards can be collected from the ICCR office. ‘Sur Prabhath’
Rajaguru Smruthi is presenting Sur Prabhath, on January 30, 7 am at Suchitra Film and Cultural Academy, No 36, 9th Main, Banashankari 2nd Stage. On the occasion, there will be Hindustani vocal recital by Shounak Abhisheki, tabla by Venugopal Hegde, harmonium by Ravindra Kathoti. Shounak Abhisheki is a leading vocalist who presents a combination of Agra and Jaipur styles of Hindustani classical music. Shounak’s aesthetic approach towards the lyrical content and his sensitivity towards the emotive aspects of a composition, gives his performance universal appeal. He tries to blend technical virtuosity with emotional appeal.
‘Bhajan’ singing
Kiraana Music Academy is organising the second edition of Bhajan singing competition for youngsters as part of the Aradhana celebration of Sri Purandara Dasa at Katte Bhavana, N R Colony on January 30, 9.30 am. There will be three groups based on the age. Prize distribution for all the groups will be held on February 6 at Dasa Nirantara Music Festival in Ravindra Kalakshetra. Nadajyothi Sri Thyagaraja Swamy Bhajana Sabha is celebrating its 46 Nadajoythi Music Festival 2011. On this occasion, a flute recital by Mysore A Chandana Kumar will be held on January 29, 7 pm at R P Ravishankar Sabhangana, Malleswaram. A vocal concert by Malladi Brothers will be conducted on January 30, 6.30 pm at R P Ravishankar Sabhangana, Malleswaram.
‘Mojo Rising’
Uninor, as part of its ongoing Unlimited Music campaign, is organising a live performance by the classic retro band Mojo Rising on January 29 and 30, from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
The excitement does not end there as the band will perform on a 16x8 feet hydraulic hoarding outside the Garuda Mall. Mojo Rising is a community of musicians who got together to perform live shows. All the musicians involved with Mojo Rising have experience of playing with other top bands in and out of Bangalore for the last 15 years.
‘Heart Beat’
Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira is presenting Spring Music Festival 2011. Bombay Jayashri Ramnath will present a vocal recital at Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K R Road on January 30, 5.45 pm.
