Two youths drown in Hebbal lake

The police and fire force personnel recovered the body of Sandesh (19) and search is on for 16-year-old Sandeep’s body. 
 
Sandesh’s father, Rajappa, a sub-inspector at the wireless section in the office of the Commissioner of Police, lived at the police quarters at Jalahalli, while Sandeep was a resident of Abbigere in Kammagondanahalli.

A group of ten first year PUC students of BEL College –– Syed Shameer, Manoj, Sahas, Gopalkrishna, Sumanth, Arjun N Naidu, Ullas Jadu, Lohith, Sandeep and Sandesh –– had been to the lake for swimming.

Sandesh waded into the water and soon started drowning. Sandeep jumped into the lake to rescue Sandesh, but also drowned. The other students noticed both of them drowning, ran out and alerted a few persons who summoned the police. By the time the police reached, both the youngsters had drowned.

Tusks recovered

Four persons were held and tusks worth Rs three lakh were recovered from them at Upkar Layout near Attibele.

Tipped off, police in the guise of prospective buyers, approached Manjunath (32) from Attibele, Partha (24), Arjun (26) and Praveen Babu, all from Billapur in Anekal taluk. During interrogation, they told the police that they bought the tusks from Gullappa in Tamil Nadu. The police are on the lookout for Gullappa.

Drug peddlers held

Police arrested four persons in Peenya, and seized 875 gm brown sugar and four cellphones. Somashekhar (30), Suresh (25), Yogish (25) and Rajesh Urs (28), all from Mandya district were arrested while they were allegedly selling the narcotics on the First Main Road at Kirloskar area in Peenya.
