The Lok Sabha witnessed uproar as the Congress MPs from Gujarat raised the issue during  the Zero Hour. As a result Speaker Meira Kumar had to adjourn the House  as the angry slogan-shouting MPs tried to walk towards the well of the Lok Sabha.

Party MPs from both Houses staged a sit-in-demonstration outside Parliament, holding Modi’s government responsible for the tragedy and demanding its dismissal. Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel led the protest demonstration in the Rajya Sabha. The party alleged that the thriving hooch trade in Gujarat had political and administrative patronage.

Congress MP from Gujarat Mukesh Kumar Gadhvi raised the issue during the Zero Hour. He said a large number of people had died after consuming the poisonous liquor. He alleged that the Congress MLAs had demanded a discussion in the Gujarat Assembly, but they were thrown out of the House. He said the Congress MLAs had staged a sit-in-demonstration on the Assembly premises, where they were attacked by the BJP workers.

Later, Gadhvi was joined by other Congress MPs who protested and criticised handling of the tragedy by the Modi government.
