The call was given by the moderate faction of the Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, demanding solution to the Kashmir issue.
The march was to begin from Naqashband Sahib here, where 22 people killed in a police firing on July 13, 1931, are buried. The incident was an offshoot of a struggle launched by the people of Kashmir against the Dogras, the erstwhile rulers of the state.
From 1947, Martyrs’ Day is being observed every year by the state government and separatists on July 13.
