The women, Girija and her daughter Vijayalakshmi, were coming out of Canara Bank after drawing the money when the robbery took place. They had drawn the money for the marriage expenses of Vijayalakshmi. Her marriage is fixed for March 21.

When they reached near Telephone Exchange Vijayalakshmi felt burning sensation in her back. when Girija rubbed her back she too felt the burning feeling.

Concerned, Girija kept the cash bag on the ground and tried to attend to Vijalakshmi. The miscreant who came in a motorbike took the bag and fled.

Incidents of robbery and thefts are on the rise in the town in the last few months. Six months ago, motorbike-borne miscreants had waylaid a worker at the local rice mill and looted lakhs of rupees from him. Police had arrested the culprits within a few days.

But, for the first time on Friday, the miscreant has used a chemical to divert the attention of the women. Police believe that the miscreant has closely observed the women withdrawing money from the bank and planned the robbery.

Bothe Girija and her husband are teachers. Vijayalakshmi’s marriage is fixed for March 21 at the S N Resort here. Police have registered a case.
