They staged a protest demanding closure of fish farms with this particular variety of fish, in the region. They alleged that the fish farm is filled with polluted water. The youth said that some of the localites have carried out pisciculture of these fishes, despite the health department’s caution against it citing the reasons of  environmental and health hazards.
They said that the officials have had a hand in glove with the accused, and hence have turned a blind eye, though the fish farm is situated near the National Highway.

They said this particular variety of fish is kept in Shidlaghatta taluk as well. As these fishes are fed on the dogs and cocks, the foul smell emanates from here causing inconvenience to the residents. When Senior Assistant Director Gopalakrishnayya Shetty said a year ago had ordered closure of these farms, he would again issue an order now, the enraged youth asked him why he didn’t take action a year ago if he was aware of the illegal activity. They laid seize to his vehicle for some time.

Manchanabele Youth leader M S Sridhar, Mandikal Block Youth Congress Somashekhar led the protest. Sub-Inspector Chandrappa was also present on the occasion.
