Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, continuing the practice of ‘pampering’ select constituencies before the polls, has this time chosen the assembly constituencies of Govindaraj Nagar in Bangalore and Channapatna in Ramanagar district for ‘special favours’. Both the constituencies will have to go in for by-elections following the resignations of V Somanna and C P Yogeshwar.

According to official information, the RDPR department has decided to spend Rs 7.50 crore special grants for improving roads and supplying drinking water in rural areas of Channapatna assembly constituency. The files pertaining to this are pending before the finance department, as per the file movement details in the secretariat. The files were created by the RDPR on June 24, 2009.

Yeddyurappa himself has directed Bangalore Development Authority to take up development works in certain wards of Govindaraj Nagar, at Rs 36.22 crore.
A June 8 government order stated that works will be taken up in the following wards: Kaigarika Nagar (Ward 21), Marenahalli (35), Govindarajnagar (36), Amarajyothinagar (37), Moodalapalya (38) and Chandra Layout (39).

The CM has directed the BDA to discuss with the BBMP, the works to be taken up, to avoid duplication. In addition, he has also said that tenders have to be invited for awarding the works. The BDA has to appoint an independent consultant to conduct quality auditing. The copies of the notification were distributed to the media by the office of Congress MLA D K Shivakumar.
