The case has been registered against three hardcore Maoists at Chitrakonda from where the collector and the junior engineer had been abducted on the evening of February 16.
The three are—Prasad, Bibhuti and Madhav, all prominent members of Andhra—Orissa border zonal committee of the CPI (Maoists).

In fact, Prasad was reportedly present at the spot where Krishna was released last Friday.
The police case has been registered under different sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
In a separate development,  Lok Sabha member from Koraput, Jayaram Pangi and a member of Orissa Legislative Assembly from Gunpur in Koraput district, Ramamurty Mutika have reportedly received threatening letters from the Maoists.

Threatening letters

In the letters which have been issued in the name of Azad of Bamsadhara division of the CPI (Maoists), both political representatives were threatened with death penalty if they continued with their anti-tribal activities. Both Pangi and Mutika are known tribal leaders from the tribal belt of southern Orissa. Koraput is the neighbouring district of Malkangiri and is equally affected by the Maoist menace.
