In reply to a question by Marithibbe Gowda (Ind), he said the State Cabinet had already cleared the proposal and it would be implemented soon.

Earlier, Social Welfare Minister A Narayanaswamy was at the receiving end of the Opposition for stating that the Supreme Court had passed an order saying that teachers' services could not be regularised.

However, Acharya intervened to clarify the issue.

Hike in honorarium

V S Acharya said the State government was considering increasing the honorarium paid to guest lecturers from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 a month.

All the members of the Legislative Council voiced their concern about the pathetic state of guest lecturers, who work part-time for a pittance in government colleges.

Joining the issue, Marithibbe Gowda (Ind) said the education scenario in the State was worsening by the day, as the paltry amount paid to lecturers acted as a deterrent to their performance.
